Emlo Communications is proud to announce that it has been appointed PR agency to Cheri Yase Kasi; a 20-month old creative agency that is making waves in the experiential marketing and commercial eventing space.
Cheri Yase Kasi, which means ‘Girl from the Township’, was started by Hlamalani Sunshine Shibambo in the first quarter of 2015 after she resigned her position as assistant brand manager for Flying Fish at SAB. At the time of her resignation she wanted to be more involved in the in-depth creation of marketing campaigns but had no clear idea of how to get what she wants. During an 18-day vacation in Thailand the self-sufficient way of the Thai people inspired her to come back and start her own business.
With more than 12 years’ experience in corporate event management she started consulting on small-scale events. Word of mouth resulted in more regular events and projects, and in September 2015 Cheri Yase Kasi was appointed the experiential events partner by Glen21 Entertainment for the first BET Experience Africa that was held at the Ticket Pro Dome in Johannesburg. Following the agency’s first big job was the launch event for MTV Lip Sync Battle Africa and soon after that it started receiving invitations to pitch on other high-profile brands.
Joined by creative strategist Tumi Mohube in June this year the all-women team, with combined marketing experience of more than 30 years, can proudly say that it is the preferred eventing partner of Ndalo Media and Glen21 Entertainment. Other clients of Cheri Yase Kasi include Bacardi, Tiger Brands, and SAB.
“My vision for Cheri Yase Kasi is to become the leading next-generation female agency in South Africa,” says Sunshine who is a passionate feminist wanting to show the township girl that there is an inspiring life beyond the township.
